The Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) crisis refers to the disproportionately high number of Native American women & girls that go missing or are murdered in North America. This website examines the U.S. origins of the crisis and modern forces perpetuating violence against Native women and LGBTQ+ / two-spirit natives. From toxic stereotypes to overlapping criminal jurisdictions, factors contributing to the MMIW crisis are deeply ingrained in modern U.S. society.
